Frequently Asked Questions

How many books have you written?

Two novels, a short story, a collection of poems, and a flash fiction story- all of which are going to be published or I hope to publish one day.

Is the book you're publishing self-published or did you find a publisher?

I found a publisher and after I sent them a query letter, they replied back that they wanted to set up an interview to get to know me and my book. The interview was a zoom call and it was successful (obviously!) and they sent me a contract a few days later, which I signed in February.

How did you find your publisher?

I searched up publishers who take unsolicited/unagented query letters, because many publishers will not even read a query if the writer doesn't have an agent. This saves time and writing!

How does the querying process work?

Create a long and short bio about yourself, a synopsis of your story, an elevator pitch, other books similar to yours, the target audience, and genre/sub-genre.

I used a free website called QueryTracker which I highly recommend for writers trying to find publishers. There, you can track how many publishers/agents you reached out to and easily communicate with them. You fill out all the information about your book and your bio in a form and send it over, and it notifies you when they get back. You can find publishers and agents specifically looking for the genre you wrote, and it narrows down the search significantly.

What inspired you to write?

A few things. One, God gave me the gift of storytelling. Two, watching How To Train Your Dragon and reading Wings of Fire when I was younger. Three, I love dragons and wanted to write my own story about them.

What are your favorite books?

Catcher In the Rye, Flowers for Algernon, The Count of Monte Cristo, and The Pilgrim's Progress. Read these if you haven't!!

Favorite authors?

Charles Dickens, C.S. Lewis, Lynn Painter, Ann Liang, Susanna Kearsley, and Stephanie Garber.

How old are you?

19, and a freshman in college.
